It doesn't seem to work for me. I upgraded my edgy to feisty, (I now have xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.6.2-0ubuntu6) and I still get the same symptoms (freeze when agp speed set to 8x in BIOS and DRI enabled in xorg.conf, no freeze if DRI disabled or AGP speed set to auto in BIOS).
I'll try again with the Herd 3 cd, in case there's something else in my xorg.conf affecting things. In the bug report posted on freedekstop: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9284 Michel Dänzer mentioned that he committed a fix for the AGP problem but it was too invasive to use in the 6.6 branch. If that's the case, and the Herd3 cd doesn't work either, maybe the only solution in the interim is to have DRI disabled in the xorg.conf by default for ATI cards.
