I just recently upgraded to Feisty and found the only problem to be the madwifi driver in the restricted-modules package. The error message that appeared on screen didn't really have anything to do with the ath_pci driver (I had to scroll up to see that). Maybe this is really the problem you are having. To give it a quick check use a live CD or try to boot in single mode and move the ath_pci module out of your /lib/modules directory. For now I am just compiling madwifi myself and it works fine.
