Same thing happened to me, but I didn't even begin to print anything, just noticed it after my computer was idle (got a warning of low disk space)
rsyslogd was using 80% cpu, cups was using 20% kept flooding syslog and user.log with: "Aug 13 19:37:33 ubuntu1 HP-LaserJet-1018: prnt/hpijs/services.cpp 386: unable to write to output, fd=1, count=12312: Broken pipe" It all started after I ran an update, I looked at my update history and these packages were last updated: cups (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 cups-bsd (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 cups-client (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 cups-common (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 hpijs (3.9.8-0ubuntu1) to 3.9.8-0ubuntu2 hpijs-ppds (3.9.8-0ubuntu1) to 3.9.8-0ubuntu2 hplip (3.9.8-0ubuntu1) to 3.9.8-0ubuntu2 hplip-cups (3.9.8-0ubuntu1) to 3.9.8-0ubuntu2 hplip-data (3.9.8-0ubuntu1) to 3.9.8-0ubuntu2 libcups2 (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 libcupsimage2 (1.3.11-1ubuntu1) to 1.3.11-1ubuntu4 Not sure which one is the culprit, but I think it has to do with hpijs. -- cups on karmic hammering system and syslog on printing error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/407971 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
