Monica/Tormod, thanks for your instructions. Before testing, I applied
Kyle's latest package at http://people.ubuntu.com/~kyle/xserver-xorg-
video-ati_6.6.2-0ubuntu6_i386.deb.

disappear?

My BIOS only recognizes 1x and 4x AGP, and it's set to 4x.

> - If you comment out the line
# Load "dri"
in the modules section of your xorg.conf (while AGP speed is set to 8x in the
BIOS), does the bug disappear?

Yes. I have restarted X ten times in a row after doing this without
fail. This is the only thing that has corrected the intermittent
problem. In any other case, within 2-3 X restarts it goes to the black
screen and hangs.

- If you add
Option "AGPMode" "8"
to the device section of the graphics card in the xorg.conf (while AGP speed is
set to 8x in the BIOS and dri is not commented out) does the bug disappear?

It does not unless the dri load is also commented out.

What do you think? Is it the same bug, or should I reopen the other
issue (how would I do that?). Thanks!
