I installed Karmic on a fresh HD, but I haven't done any updates since
that install from the iso - perhaps it's running a stale kernel as
well. I've been putting off Jaunty's kernel updates since they showed
up - I hope to get to that this weekend and see if there's any change.

I'll check out that stress-test, though. If nothing else, hopefully it
will help to prove / disprove that the recent kernel updates actually
have an effect.
