Public bug reported:

I used Kubuntu Jaunty 64. This weekend I lost sound because of unknown
reason. I didn't change anything. I was frustrated and upgraded to the
development release Karmic. It at least gives me an error message about
the lack of sound. The sound works correctly in Windows.

Hardware:
Intel MB with Intel HDA STAC92xx (from KDE System Settings - Multimedia)
Hooked to an amplifier with optical cable (S/PDIF)

Problem:
YouTube, Kaffeine, VLC eventually (like after 1min of usage) break the output.
I get system notification that Phonon failed to use the digital output and fell
back to the analog. After that, I don't get any sounds from applications and
system. Suprisingly Amarok still plays music, even after I restart it after the
breakage...

** Affects: ubuntu
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
