If you could actually test Karmic that would be great -
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/karmic

The apport-collect should automatically attach the debug information to
this bug report, all you have to do is run the command.

As far as testing the latest upstream, take a look at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds .  It should direct you to
where you can download the latest kernel build to install.  Tt will be
package in the form of a .deb that you can install using something like
"sudo dpkg -i <kernel-you-want-to-test>.deb"
