I have a similar problem. I only get the 640x480 resolution also after I installed 915resolution. Another problem is that I have very often a black screen and only sometimes a working X and then with this small resolution. So edgy is for me unusable. With dapper I had the same small resolution but get an login screen everytime. To work with my computer I have to use the vesa driver but this doesn't work any longer under edgy for me.
