Same problem with clean install of Kubuntu (AMD64) and (K)ubuntu repository Nvidia driver.
I have compared the X.org log files at first boot (with problem apparent) and subsequent X server restarts (problem goes away). Interestingly in the first boot the Nvidia seems to initialised twice. In subsequent restarts it gets initialised only once. Attached is X.org log file of a first boot (with problem apparent). Below is a diff -u of the initial boot and a restart: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ diff -u Xorg.0.log.old Xorg.0.log --- Xorg.0.log.old 2006-11-28 19:00:06.000000000 +1300 +++ Xorg.0.log 2006-11-28 19:00:18.000000000 +1300 @@ -11,7 +11,7 @@ Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting, (++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational, (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. -(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Tue Nov 28 18:57:27 2006 +(==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Tue Nov 28 19:00:06 2006 (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" (==) ServerLayout "Default Layout" (**) |-->Screen "Default Screen" (0) @@ -623,40 +623,3 @@ xkb_symbols { include "%" }; xkb_geometry { include "%" }; (EE) Error loading keymap /var/lib/xkb/server-0.xkm -(II) Open ACPI successful (/var/run/acpid.socket) -(II) APM registered successfully -(II) NVIDIA(0): Setting mode "[EMAIL PROTECTED]" -(II) Loading extension NV-GLX -(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA 3D Acceleration Architecture Initialized -(II) NVIDIA(0): Using the NVIDIA 2D acceleration architecture -(==) RandR enabled -(II) Initializing extension GLX -error opening security policy file /usr/lib/xserver/SecurityPolicy - xkb_keycodes { include "xfree86+aliases(qwerty)" }; - xkb_types { include "complete" }; - xkb_compatibility { include "complete" }; - xkb_symbols { include "pc(pc104)+us" }; - xkb_geometry { include "pc(pc104)" }; -(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom - No such file or directory. -Error opening /dev/wacom : No such file or directory -(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom - No such file or directory. -Error opening /dev/wacom : No such file or directory -(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom - No such file or directory. -Error opening /dev/wacom : No such file or directory -(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/wacom - No such file or directory. -Error opening /dev/wacom : No such file or directory -(II) Configured Mouse: ps2EnableDataReporting: succeeded -Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/TTF/, removing from list! -Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/OTF, removing from list! -Could not init font path element /usr/share/fonts/X11/CID/, removing from list! -FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing. ** Attachment added: "Xorg log file" http://librarian.launchpad.net/6212207/Xorg.0.log.old -- Colour depth problem on one display following upgrade to edgy https://launchpad.net/bugs/71094 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
