Daniel, Lightbreeze is right the idea is to be able to diferenciate the files types "at first glance", It doesn´t matter if the icons are not the propietary ones. For example most of my pdfs are scientific papers, so a pdf icon showing two columns or two columns interrupted by a square (like a figure) would be easy to me to recongnize. Of course this may not work for other people just because they use to read "other types of pdf files", hence the icon must be something diferent to what I have proposed here, I´am just giving and example.
