Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: apt-cacher

Package version:
Apt-cacher version 1.6.7ubuntu4

lsb_release -rd :
Description: Ubuntu 9.04
Release: 9.04

Contents of /etc/apt/apt.conf :
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://192.168.0.100:3142/apt-cacher/";;

apt-get update produces the following on some lines:

  Err http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com jaunty-security/restricted Translation-en_GB
Error reading from server - read (104 Connection reset by peer)
  W: Failed to fetch
http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/jaunty-updates/restricted/i18n/Translation-en_GB.bz2
Error reading from server - read (104 Connection reset by peer)

E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old
ones used instead.

This results in not being able to complete updates.

replacing the Ubuntu version with the Debian version (apt-
cacher_1.6.4_all.deb) works fine for me.

I'm willing to do more digging if required.

I've used apt-cacher for years & find it very useful. Many thanks.
