This is still an issue with 9.04

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
       Status: Invalid => New

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: xorg

Using the Nvidia proprietary driver causes the system to randomly freeze. The
system is not responsive to any input at all. I have been successful in
reproducing the freezes though by changing the orientation of the wallpaper
around (centered, tiled, zoom, etc.) The open source "nv" drivers work fine.
However, this problem does not exist in Dapper. I have the Nvidia 9631 driver
installed on Dapper and have never had a problem with it freezing. This started
with Edgy and is still present in Feisty and looks as though it's still present
in Gutsy. Here's what I have tested out:
  Ubuntu Dapper+9631: No freezes
  Ubuntu Edgy+8776: Freezes
  Ubuntu Edgy+9631: Freezes
  Ubuntu Feisty+9631: Freezes
  Ubuntu Feisty+9639: Freezes
  Ubuntu Gutsy+9631: Freezes
+ Ubuntu Hardy+96.43.05: Freezes
+ Ubuntu Intrepid+96.43.05: Freezes
+ Ubuntu Jaunty+96.43.10: Freezes

I do not believe this is an issue with the driver since it works
perfectly for me on Dapper. Something changed between Dapper and Edgy
  and has not been fixed.
