Believe it or not, this is actually good news to me.  Many people
believe this bug to be BIOS related (bias towards Microsoft products by
default).  I have emailed Sager, and hopefully I will be sent a newer
version of the BIOS for the laptop (I haven't updated it since August of
last year).  I'm going to try that, as well as openSUSE as per your
experience with it.  I tried Mandriva 2009.1 One x64 this morning, it's
also a victim of this bug.  I may also try screwing around with
KernelCheck under Ubuntu, as it's much easier to change different
options and variables (at least for me).

Personally, I don't really care if the laptop detects AC or Battery
properly, but this bug, along with Nvidia's powermizer feature, is
absolutely crippling my performance.  As long as I can get the 9800 GT
to work at full speed, I'll settle for a partial fix, even if it means
sacrificing the detection of the battery in favor of the AC adaptor.
Have you, by any chance, found a way to force your card to AC power
mode?
