I always get a blank screen on resuming from both suspend and hibernate
on karmic. Switching to a console and back results in some, but severely
corrupted visuals.
When running it with debugging as described on the wiki, I see this in
dmesg:

But my modules only have this reference to ohci:
$ lsmod | grep ohci

and the problem does not go away when running:
$ modprobe -r ohci1394
before suspend or hibernate. The fact that the same happens with both
suspend and hibernate, leads me to think that it is a problem with a
module.
