Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Ubuntu 9.04- the Jaunty Jackalope
gnome v. 2.26.1
Nautilus v. 1:2.26.2-0ubuntu2
AMD-64

I get this message when I boot up or try to open a folder or location on
my computer:

Nautilus cannot be used now. Running the command "bonobo-slay" from the
console may fix the problem. If not, you can try rebooting the computer
or installing Nautilus again.

Bonobo could not locate the Nautilus_shell.server file. One cause of
this seems to be an LD_LIBRARY_PATH that does not include the bonobo-
activation library's directory. Another possible cause would be bad
install with a missing Nautilus_Shell.server file.

Running "bonobo-slay" will kill all Bonobo Activation and GConf
processes, which may be needed by other applications.

Sometimes killing bonobo-activation-server and gconfd fixes the problem,
but we do not know why.

We have also seen this error when a faulty version of bonobo-activation
was installed.

Ive tried all the suggestions in this message, including purging and
reinstalling--same result. I've been using Krusader and today I noticed a file
in the desktop folder named:
nautilus-computer

Just for fun I double clicked on it, and lo and behold a File Browser
window opened. I was able to open other folders and navigate where ever
i wanted to. Still the Places menu on the desktop menu does not
function. but also does not give me the error. But as soon as i close
the window which opened by double clicking nautilus-computer in the
Krusader window. I get the same error.

I've not tried to reboot or log out yet.
