I hit bug #369158 with gqview as well, which has been duped here. I'm using Jaunty on nvidia here. Could reproduce it with the latest gqview CVS trunk as well. By the way, I guess the gqview fullscreen mode should be much simpler to reproduce this issue and investigate the problem than a full wine setup.
There seems to be a race condition: while the first time I switched to fullscreen usually got me gnome panels around my window, the second time it usually was really full screen, and if not, then the third time it was.
