This is a bug of chipset. Maybe, there's no 'general version' workaround. It seems Bug #88746 is a complex of problems such as SB600/700 problem, so we need to apply many workarounds to fix... Andiry Xu's patch and Shane Huang's patch (which extends Xu's patch for SB600) are merged to linux-2.6.28, and are inherited by 2.6.31. In fact, these patches are already applied to Ubuntu 9.04's kernel image. These patches are considered to be necessery and effective, so there's no reason to reject these patches for 8.04 kernel image. Apply these patches please!
