If anybody is still working on this, I've been working on a no-sound
problem on my KDS Valiant 681XH. Please post the results of
/proc/ioports ("cat /proc/ioports"). On my computer, you'll clearly see
the Ali M5451 audio is trying to set itself up at I/O address 1000-10ff,
but gets "Stepped On" by the ACPI CPU Throttle, at I/O address
1010-1015.I've got posts on this here: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1217099.html and here: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/susenovell-60/suse-10-laptop-no- sound-and-no-acpiafter-online-update-424711/page2.html I've been researching this, it appears the ACPI functionality may be broken in the BIOS, specifically, the DSTS or ECDT data tables. It's also possible that Linux is not setting things up right. I've verified this problem and these same addresses on Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu 8.04, 8.10, 9.04, and on SimplyMepis/Mepis AntiX 7.0 and 8.0) Anybody having expertise in these areas, please chime in !!!!
