I have been having the freezes problem, at least every 30 minutes, I tried all the following suggestions.
1. Setting to none the visual effects 2. Removing compiz 3. Updating the /etc/X11/xorg.conf to several recommendations, Doing all of the above, reduced the problem to one freeze per day. I found that updating the kernel to 2.6.29.6 fixed my problem, that eventually allowed me to: 1. Restored /etc/X11/xorg.conf to the default settings 2. Reinstall compiz 3. Set visual effects to normal. I have been running this for 3 days, and no freeze yet.
