I also experience this when trying to burn a DVD in karmic. I am able to burn a DVD in Jaunty without any issues. The drive's LED indicator flashes between amber and green which shows that there is an error. I've attached a snapshot of Brasero trying to burn a DVD; as you can see the estimated time for burn is 1570:06:03, and that number keeps growing, the DVD does not burn at all.
