Evan,
    I downloaded usb-creator 0.2.7 from the launchpad website. Apt-cache
shows I am using 0.2.4. I extracted the tar file, entered the bin directory
and double clicked the usb-creator-gtk python script. The result is a bit
surprising. One of the partitions of the USB key is shown under the source
disk image .iso list as

/dev/sr0 U3 System 5.5MB

I think that U3 refers to a small Windows utility that is placed on the USB
key by the manufacturer.

However I would like to know what /dev/sr0 refers to. It appears on my
desktop as a CD rom when I UNPLUG my Samsung external USB DVD writer in
classic desktop mode. There are no internal CD drives in my EEE PC.

Disk to use in usb creator still shows /dev/sdb1 280GB but no sdd.

Do I need to run setup.py or type make to install/update the backend?

Regards
David
