Just got sound recorder working on my NC10 running current kernel
(2.6.28-15-generic), without recompiling alsa nor messing with pulseaudio
config as suggested in #15.
My goal was to make audio conferences with skype, but pulseaudio recording
failed (loud white noise). It turned out alsamixer default settings were wrong.

Here is what i'd recommend:
  - get into a shell and launch "alsamixer"
  - hit F4 to switch to Capture settings
  - Hit right arrow until you get to "Input Source"
  - select "Front Mic" (up and down arrows)
You also might want to lower the Mic Boost, Capture and Front Mic levels which
are too high untill you get a good sound.

Just my $0.02. Hope this helps...
