Just confirming I experienced the same issue with a canon i865 and MP600, and above temp workaround is indeed successful.
By the way, as I was searching for an answer in other places I saw references to a dev/usb folder-if it matters I have no such folder, just usbdevX.X epXX files in the dev folder.
