I am using Ubuntu Karmic (development branch) 9.10 (downloaded alpha 6).
After long hibernation (6 hours) the system could not resume and showed
a menu with options to load from two kernel types. I chose the latest
one, but then nothing happened and I restarted the machine from the
power button. Then the same menu appeared instead of loading the ubuntu
log in screen. I chose another option from the menu and then it started
without the graphic environment. I logged using my name and password and
after that executed the reboot command. Then the system finally started
normally. All this took me about 5-6 minutes.

Annotation: This occured during a previous hibernate and prevented it from
resuming properly.
