Public bug reported:

There is no sound playback on three laptops using Ubuntu Karmic Beta: A Compaq
6720s, an (older) Siemsens Fujitsu Amilo Pro, and a very new Sony Vaio
VGN-FW31ZJ.
On all three laptops, there was sound with Ubuntu Jaunty, including all updates
until approx Oct, 1st.

When headphones pluged in, the sound worked (on the headphones), but I
felt that there was only medium quality (noise etc.).

I found somewhere in an older post that adding the "option snd-hda-intel
model=mitac" to the /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf solved the problem,
so i tried and it worked for all laptops! (ALL with model=mitac).
