I am seeing the same issue with my HP Compaq nc4010 running Jaunty in Xubuntu.
I followed the DebuggingKernelSuspend article in the Ubuntu Wiki, capturing resume info to the RTC (I think I got it right). I am attaching the dmesg.txt file from that effort for analysis/feedback/etc. If you need any additional information, please let me know. Thanks!
