Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: network-manager

After connecting my Sony Ericsson M600i cell phone it is recognized as a
GSM/3G modem and NM shows the configured 3G profile. But the connection
doesn't work. NM reaches "Activation (ttyACM4) Stage 1 of 5 (Device
Prepare) complete" and waits about 1-2 minutes before printing the
message "...GSM modem connection failed...". (Details see nm-serial.log
and modem.log)

Connecting via gnome-ppp using device ttyACM4 works without a problem
afterwards.
