I am running into a similar problem. I tried to follow this tutorial: http://www.ubuntu-in.org/wiki/SATA_RAID_Howto but then, dmraid -ay claims the raid 10 device is ready, but gparted sees four hard drives, not my /dev/mapper/* raid10 device. Which is puzzling. My mobo is a brand new ASUS P5WDG2 WS Professional, with 4 SATA HD plugged in, configured to run as a raid 10 device using the built-in Intel ICH7R fakeraid chipset. So far no luck in setting up ubuntu at all in this machine directly onto the raid.
