Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-mplayer
When I have gnome-mplayer set to use Xv output, it loses the video in place of a gray square often. It seems to happen most when it's fullscreen. It will fullscreen properly for a moment, but will turn into a big gray square when the controls shift away. This can be bypassed by removing the controls altogether, but it still occurs again any popup, such as a notification, happens. This behavior is annoying and needs to be fixed.
