Sorry, maybe I didn't explain my question. These laptops have all worked fine with Dapper and Edgy, despite having the same BIOS and even though some of them are made by lenovo, and others by IBM. So, my questions were essentially: why is working around needed? And why is the solution that worked great for Dapper and Edgy no longer an option? I'm concerned that by requiring changing this fdi file referred to, some models are going to stay broken.
