Public bug reported: Apple PowerBook G4 (5,4) Ubuntu 7.04
This problem occurs intermittently when using either the internal microphone (located under left speaker grille) or an external pre- amplified mic insterted into Line-In. When recording a sound file using sound recorder, (which defaults to using DRC Range as input) some of the time it works just fine. However, frequently and intermittently, the sound is *very* distorted sounding much like very loud white noise. No sound settings are changed between these recordings. The distortion remains for the duration of the recording, but if it is stopped and a new one started, the recording this time may be fine for the duration (or it may be distorted again). This is particularly frustrating as it is not possible to tell if the recording will be distorted until it is played back. The distortion is not apparent through the Monitor channel when this is turned on. I believe this problem also affects other applications using microphone input such as Ekiga, making reliable internet conferencing pretty much impossible. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- Horrible intermittent distortion from microphone https://launchpad.net/bugs/84907 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
