@DasFox, I know about the unmuting part. The thing was that there was no hardware to unmute.
Now, with 2.6.31.12 it works again (builging from source). @Xavi, in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa- driver/+question/84686 there are instructions to follow. Make sure to replace the number of the kernel by what you are using. And that you have build-essential installed.
