This bug has been affecting me since Hardy. Until Gutsy it was fine. I've tried all the suggestions out on the forums, to no avail. The headphones don't mute the speakers automatically. I have to mute the speakers manually everytime. In karmic, there are two modes, headphone and speakers. So now I have to manually select the Headphone mode. Why doesn't it happen automatically? Currently I'm on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 beta with all the latest updates installed to-date.
