I have the same problem on up-to-date Karmic UNR and MSI Wind. For me the flickering doesn't go away. I have I run gnome-power-manager on the command line the flickering stops although it complains that the power manager is already running. after a while of inactivity it starts to flicker again and i need to run gnome-power-manager again for it to go away.
