I got this problem after yesterday update of usplash and nvida packages. Screen look similar to this from initial report(although colors are diffrent,but they change each time I'm going from X to tty). I don't have vga=791 in grub2 boot line, but changing splash to nosplash fixes it for me. I think that I could have this bug from begginig of Karmic,but yesterday update just turned on usplash by default so I just recently notieced it. nvidia-18*: 185.18.36-0ubuntu4
