Greyghost, please boot the CD, press F6 at 'Try Ubuntu', hit escape to clear the additional options menu, then remove "quiet splash" from the the kernel command line and press enter to boot that option. If you did that correctly you will not see the graphical boot progress. Are you able to get to the live CD desktop by doing this?
