Public bug reported: I loaded the 9.10 beta version of ubuntu on my dell E6500 laptop and am unable to configure a network connection. When I select system->preferences->network connection->wired->eth0->edit->ipv4 settings->method->manual and then add an address and netmask and gateway and dns servers and then select apply and enter the needed authentication, the requested network connection is not setup. The tool forces the interface back to DHCP and /etc//NetworkManager/system- connections/eth0 contains the line autoconnect=true (i.e., the manual address is forced back to DHCP). Repeating the above menu selections reveals that the method remains at Automatic (DHCP).
Moreover, when I run appropriate ifconfig and route commands as root and create an /etc/resolv.conf file with nameserver lines for DNS servers to overcome this deficiency in the network connection tool, I am able to access the local network, but the routing to the outside world does not work (i.e., /etc/resolv.conf is being ignored). Linux has never done this previously. Why is ubuntu trashing fundamental linux procedures? No matter how many conveniences you implement, this sort of change is bad. The above problem still exists after running the command "sudo /etc/init.d/apparmor stop" (i.e., this fix for an earlier bug does not help). I am attaching a buglogs file with the output of the following commands: lsb_release -rd uname -a cat /proc/version_signature lspci -nn lspci -vnvn dmesg ** Affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- unable to configure network connection using wired ipv4 manual method https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449529 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
