As far as I understand, Ubuntu calendar widget doesn't have its own
implementation of date formatting, but instead it uses something system.
If it's not true please correct me. So it means we should dig deeply and
try to correct it there.

Different languages have different writing traditions. In English months
name are uppercased, in Russian they are not. Even more — Russian date
formula requires months name to be in genitive case (differs from
standard nominative).
