Another problem with power down of usb devices on unmount is that if i unmount, e.g. SD card via nautilus, the whole card reader is powered down and i cannot use it until reboot (or until opening the case and unplugging/replugging its usb cable).
There must be some option, controlling whether to power down this specific device on unmount or not.
