Are you able to reproduce this in the latest daily-live CD
(http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live)? If so, can you please uncomment
(remove the # mark) the set -x line near the top of
/usr/share/grub-installer/grub-installer and try again? When it fails, please
attach /var/log/syslog, /var/log/installer/debug, and /var/log/partman.
