OK, I've got the same kind of problem: SpeedCrunch loads fine.
Konsole: KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/konsole'. Konqueror: KDEInit could not launch '/usr/lib/kde4/bin/kfmclient'. xterm, acroread don't give icons, and fade when I hit enter (same as if I type in gibberish) - so they're not recognized at all. I'm running KDE 4.2.2, on Ubunto 9.04 with kernel 2.6.28-15-generic.
