This problem occurs *ONLY* on my desktop. I will discuss what happens on my laptop for comparison.
My laptop got fresh install of Karmic beta with grub2 (vs. upgrade from Jaunty on desktop, manual update to grub2). My laptop is connected to the same KVM switch (via docking station usb port). I tested booting the laptop into Karmic which docked and active on KVM switch. There are no console messages between grub2 and xsplash on laptop.
