I think I have the same problem. When I start ubuntu with Quickcam 3500 it brokes my pulseaudio but when I unplug and plug again it works nice.
My syslog says: pulseaudio[1709]: alsa-mixer.c: Your kernel driver is broken: it reports a volume range from 23.00 dB to 23.00 dB which makes no sense I think that is a input mic problem.
