Additional info: After the system clock is updated with NTP info, the
hardware clock is still wrong. Recent example:

$ sudo hwclock -r --debug; date
hwclock from util-linux-ng 2.16
Using /dev interface to clock.
Assuming hardware clock is kept in local time.
Waiting for clock tick...
...got clock tick
Time read from Hardware Clock: 2036/12/13 17:27:30
Hw clock time : 2036/12/13 17:27:30 = 2112798450 seconds since 1969
Sat 13 Dec 2036 05:27:30 PM CET  -0.447169 seconds
Tue Oct 20 23:57:30 CEST 2009
