I've just had a poke round applesmc, and from what I gather there is just a minimum value for fan speed, and a temperature threshold above which the fan speed increases dramatically. Is there not something implemented like this: http://www.lobotomo.com/products/FanControl/images/screenshot.gif (ie. A linear relationship between fan speed and CPU temperature)?
