Public bug reported:

Upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 beta yesterday and after resuming from suspend the 
display stays off while the system below is fully responsive. I can switch to 
VT1 with Strg+Alt+F1, login blindly and run commands eg. reboot but the screen 
stays off. This only happens with the  2.6.31-14-generic booted and is fully 
reproducible. Happened each time I tried (~10 times).
Computer is a IBM ThinkPad X40 using the i915 graphics driver. Suspend/Resume 
always worked fine on this box in 9.04 and it also works correctly when booting 
the 2.6.28-16-generic that comes with 9.10.
