Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: grub2

The system was upgraded via "aptitude dist-upgrade"; the upgrade started and I
left the computer.
After I came back an hour later the terminal window was empty (no cursor, etc).
This is when probably the crash happened.

After "sudo dpkg --configure -a" the system asked me if I want to keep
the modified version of the file /etc/default/grub
