Okay i have some more details that may help. In Kubuntu 9.10, i had success in getting audio playback with no issues, both online flash video with audio and .wav format audio files. Fedora 11 worked fine (also gave me a popup letting me know my old hdd is on it's last legs which was helpful) but the fedora 12 beta seems to be lacking the proper driver support as well, so maybe it's a kernel issue? is kubuntu using any legacy kernel bits to keep KDE compatibility? Entirely conjecture there, but if so that might explain why it's handling the audio correctly...
