And what should root be set to? Also /dev/mapper/vgname-lvname ? In that case, it doesn't help. It just sits there for three minutes waiting for the root device to show up. I also don't see why this should help. The root option is already passed correctly to the initramfs, which can also be seen by adding ide-generic and ide-disk to /etc/initramfs- tools/modules since the system then boots just fine.
