That looks fine, they set up and destroy the guest session user just
fine.

That's no problem, seems you don't have gnome-screensaver running then.

That won't work, you can't start gdm as non-root. Which Ubuntu release
are you on, 9.04? (In 9.10 "karmic" it is called gdm-binary).

What display manager are you using, if not gdm?
